How can you use a studio lighting kit with a point&shoot camera?
Question by EB: How can you use a studio lighting kit with a point&shoot camera? I have a point and shoot camera and a novatron lighting kit. How can I get it to sync with the lights?
If you have a digital P&S camera, the flash may fire a few times just moments before the actual picture is taken - these pre-flashes will set off the studio flash before the image is taken, i.e., too soon.
Solutions 1) There may be a device that doesn't react to the pre-flashes - it would be a special type of Optical Slave.
2) Block the on-camera flash from lighting the subject. But, you may still want that flash to set off the Novatrons. So, use a piece of foil to bounce the on-camera flash everywhere but where the camera is pointing.
3) If you can do bracketing, it may be a way to get the perfect exposure if you can't adjust the camera's aperture.

Leave the studio lights on full-time. Don't try to time them. That will let you compose the photo much better..
