I have a basic point and shoot digital camera and I would like to upgrade to a camera that will take higher quality photos. I don't have aspirations to become a professional photographer. I want to be able to take higher quality photos of friends, family, pets, and take high quality pictures during my vacations. I'm looking for a camera that is user friendly within the $ 300-500 price range.
I've done some research but am overwhelmed by all the options.

I would maybe look into the Nikon D3000. I have a Nikon and they are great!! It's $ 500.
But if your also looking for being able to shoot video, then choose something different because the D3000 doesnt have the video option.
