which point and shoot camera should i get?

Question by : which point and shoot camera should i get?
is there a point and shoot camera that has the ability to make the background blurry? kind of like the professeional DSLR?? i just think dslr are way toooo big.

Best answer:

Answer by slap happy
The problem with point and shoots are that they have smaller sensors than DSLRS so you would have to mess with the settings to get the "shallow depth of field" you are looking for.

This should help get a shallow depth of field with a point and shoot.
Go to the menu on the point and shoot set the aperture to the lowest number. This creates the shallow depth of field (blur). A higher number gives you a deep depth of field(no blur ).
Make sure not to use digital zoom because it will crop the picture.
Tap the shutter to auto focus and stop when you get the look you want.

or look into the olympus xz-1

Is it important to have image stabilization on a point-and-shoot camera?

Question by teamirish82: Is it important to have image stabilization on a point-and-shoot camera?
I am going to buy a point-and-shoot digital camera to take some basic photos. Is it important to buy one with image stabilization?

Best answer:

Answer by fhotoace
If the camera does not have a viewfinder, it is nearly imperative unless you are an experienced photographer and can handhold shots without camera movement.

Holding the camera up to your face and using both hands to steady it makes IS a nice extra feature. Having to hold the camera at arm's length makes IS a necessity

What point and shoot digital camera should my mom get?

Question by [ApraTur3]: What point and shoot digital camera should my mom get?
My mom has been wanting a point and shoot digital camera and I am trying to find the right one for her. She's looking for something simple, preferrably with some zoom. Something that is durable with a decent battery life and has good image quality and a couple top of the line features. I was looking at a Canon Powershot A1100 IS but I hear it's battery life is bad so is there another camera similar to it that is just as good and better with batteries? Not looking to spend over $ 175 if possible.

Can I defocus the background when taking picture using the Canon PowerShot SX260 point and shoot camera?

Question by angel: Can I defocus the background when taking picture using the Canon PowerShot SX260 point and shoot camera?
I need some help from the camera expert people. I am confuse what to get from these 2 point and shoot camera. I'm looking for a camera that has built in background defocus and has many options in effect when taking pictures.

1. Canon PowerShot SX260
2. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX20V 18.2 MP

Thank you :)

Best answer:

Answer by lowlevel
For most point and shoot cameras, setting them to 'portrait mode' will blur the background. You can help further blur the background by zooming in as much as you can, and then backing up to frame your subject.

If the camera has a manual mode, use that and select the largest aperture (the smallest f number) you can.

Is there a point and shoot digital camera with optical zoom while recording a video?

Question by aimee137148: Is there a point and shoot digital camera with optical zoom while recording a video?
Is there a good quality point and shoot digital camera that allows for optical zoom while recording a video? Not digital zoom, which just crops the frame you already have and makes the video blurry and undefined, but optical zoom, which actually zooms into what ever you're looking at without the blurriness of the digital zoom. Thanks so much for your help :)
Is there a camera with all of the qualities above that is compact. For example, a camera that could fit in a jacket pocket.

What's the difference between a Digital SLR and Digital Point & Shoot cameras?

Question by Dallas Island Ferry Suspended: What's the difference between a Digital SLR and Digital Point & Shoot cameras?
What's the difference between a Digital SLR and Digital Point & Shoot cameras?(;
Thanks, guys. You really cleared that up for me. I have a Point & Shoot camera. My Mom has a Digital SLR one. I asked because I'm looking for a new camera to buy. Either higher in megapixels, but a SLR wouldn't be bad! Well, thanks(:

Best answer:

Answer by fishing66833
The SLR is for those who use cameras professionally. They have a lot more options as far as adjustments to how the camera operates. The point and shoot cameras are for most people, and easier to use because a lot of functions are performed automatically. Also, with SLR cameras, more changeable settings equal higher price. The quality of photos is also higher with the SLR cameras, but most people would never notice the difference.

How do I achieve depth of field on regular point and shoot camera?

Question by nygemgirl: How do I achieve depth of field on regular point and shoot camera?
I have a Nikon Coolpix S3300 which is great for everyday pictures but I want to experiment with depth of field - I didn't see anything on that in the manual and I've played with all the settings and I simply don't know what I'm doing. Is it even possible to achieve DOF with a point and shoot digital camera?

Best answer:

Answer by Miranda
Well, you really can't when you don't control the aperture setting and you can't do that with a point and shoot. What you can do is play with distance from the subject and objects behind by moving yourself with respect to the subject, that would give you the closes proximation. Essentially you can't do much except change your position with respect to the subject. If you move closer to the subject, objects behind will go out of focus. If you move farther away from the subject, objects behind will be in focus. That's about the best you can do. You need to have a camera with adjustable aperture settings to do anything more.

IMO, the best point and shoots are the Leica D-Lux 4, the Sigma DP series (DP1, DP1s, DP2), the Ricoh GXR, the Olympus PEN series, the Canon G10/G11, and the Panasonic GF-1. Also check out the Samsung NX-10.

I want to purchase a digital point and shoot camera with at least 10 megapixels, at least 3x optical zoom, MUST have lithium battery power for under $ 300.00. Is there any website where I can answer questions and it will narrow it down to the a few selections rather than having to read through hundreds of reviews, specs etc.?

What kind of point and shoot camera has a fast shutter response?

Question by Rayne Wolf: What kind of point and shoot camera has a fast shutter response?
Just what the question says. I'm a person that loves to take pictures, but I don't do it because I can't find a camera that has a fast shutter response. Just to be clear, I'm talking about the time between pressing the button to take the picture and when the picture actually takes. I see the perfect opportunity for photos all the time, but then by the time the picture is actually taken, whatever I'm taking a photo of has moved.

I don't want an SLR because I'm not a photographer and it'd really be just a waist of money. I'm looking for digital point and shoot cameras. I'd also like to have the possibility of HD video recording on the camera but my heart isn't set on it.

Best answer:

Answer by Vinegar Taster
You're out of luck. No point & shoot is going to give you a fast shutter response. All of them will lag to some degree or another. Even your lower end D-SLR's will lag.
Fujifilm makes some nice Finepix bridge cameras. I like the Nikon P510 myself.

Does anybody make a true point and shoot camera any more?

Question by RED: Does anybody make a true point and shoot camera any more?
My old camera, a Canon A560, is on its last legs and needs to be replaced. This camera was a true point and shoot; you pointed the camera and pushed the button. If you do this with my wife's camera which is newer the picture will be way out of focus; you have to point, push the buttom halfway to allow the camera to focus, and then push the button. I do not consider this point and shoot; this is point, focus, and shoot. With that stated, does any camera company build a true point and shoot camera anymore?

Best answer:

Answer by Dr. Iblis
a lens can never be in focus 100% of the time, hence the waiting for the shot- to get in focus.

why your A560 never did that is beyond me. It seems completely impossible.

unfortunately, I know of no point and shoot camera that will shoot when right when you tell it to (unless you are on manual).

what is your budget?

What is the difference in a Point & Shoot digital camera and a DSLR camera ? What does DSLR mean exactly ?

Question by Ronica_Simone: What is the difference in a Point & Shoot digital camera and a DSLR camera ? What does DSLR mean exactly ?
I want to become a professional photographer but I am just getting started - I have a really nice Point & shoot camera that has tons of great features - I paid around $ 500 for it and it takes amazing photos - Well I have something to do with that as well -ha ha
But everyone tells me now that to be professional I need a DSLR
Is that true ? And what exactly is the differences between DSLR's & Point & Shoots ?
What does DSLR stand for Exactly and why are they sooooo freakin expensive and you still need to buy better lenses for them ?

Where can I find a good DSLR for cheap ? If it exsists -LOL

Best answer:

Answer by tgpdagaz
The point and shoot is really a DSLR made simple so everybody can use it. They have great features and can be used as a everyday camera.

DSLR = Digital Single Lense Reflex. These are usually your more top of the line digital cameras that have interchangeable lenses. They also give you more freedom on adjustable settings. All pro photorgraphers are using DSLR now. They are more expenses because they are usually of a much much higher quality camera
