What kind of point and shoot camera takes the best pictures?

Question by kcawh: What kind of point and shoot camera takes the best pictures?
I'm looking for more color quality than picture clearness. My limit would be around $ 300, but would like around $ 200. All the cameras I've had tend to take washed out pictures, and the coloring is never quite right, especially outside when it's sunny. I want blues that are blue, greens that are greens, and everything in between. Is it impossible to find a normal point and shoot digital camera that takes photos like that, or do I have to buy a DSLR?..

Answer by Jesse Ekin
I recentl got a Panasonic Lumix FT2- It's water-proof, dust-proof, shock-proof and freeze proof. It takes clear pictures with really good vibrant colours. It is also a HD video camera. I recommend it.
I bought it for about $ 350 it may be out of your price range but trust me it's worth every cent.

Do digital point & shoots use actual electro-mechanical shutters or do they just turn the sensor on and off?

Question by Mere Mortal: Do digital point & shoots use actual electro-mechanical shutters or do they just turn the sensor on and off?
Do you know which digital point & shoot cameras just toggle the sensor on and off to capture the image?

Best answer:

Answer by screwdriver
Only the cheap no name cameras have no mechanical shutter, they just scan the sensor, its like a 'screen grab' on a camcorder. Higher quality ones do, you can often hear it working. Its needed to accurately control the light falling on the sensor.

Look into the cameras lens if you can see the sensor it doesn't have a shutter if you can't then it does.

A point and shoot camera with shutter speed control?

Question by Olivia: A point and shoot camera with shutter speed control?
Are there any digital cameras, or point and shoot cameras, that have shutter speed control. The brand doesn't matter but it would be nice if it looked good, obviously. I am looking to spend under $ 250, $ 250 being the absolute highest I can go.
I want to take pictures with LONGER shutter speeds, up to 10 seconds even.

What's the best point and shoot camera less than $200?

Question by Benjamin: What's the best point and shoot camera less than 0?
We're buying one for my sister's birthday and we want to get her a really good point and shoot camera. She's not a professional or anything.

Best answer:

Answer by Andrew
As long as you avoid Kodak, Benq, Vivitar and GE, you can't go far wrong.

If she doesn't mind something a little bigger, and creative control, look at bridge cameras from Fujifilm or Panasonic (Lumix).

If you buy Canon or Nikon at this level, all you'll get is an expensive, but poorly-specified camera.

How can I maintain the zoom lens on my point and shoot camera?

Question by basketballfan1: How can I maintain the zoom lens on my point and shoot camera?
Hi,

I have two old point and shoot zoom cameras that have lens lag when the lens are in use. Do I replace the lens motor or clean the clutches? Thank You

Best answer:

Answer by keerok
Overhaul the motor and replace the clutch. :o

When point-and-shoot cameras start to fail, you replace them with new ones. Fixing them wouldn't be a gratifying experience.

Is there a difference between the megapixel in digital point&shoot cameras and slr cameras?

Question by ilove.yomama: Is there a difference between the megapixel in digital point&shoot cameras and slr cameras?
I have a point&shoot 7.1 megapixel Sony Cybershot camera, and I want to get a Nikon D40. It has 6.1 megapixel. Should I get it? Is it worth it? Is there a difference between the megapixel and quality I'll get between the two cameras?

Best answer:

Answer by singletrack65
A 6MP DSLR is much better than a 14MP point & shoot camera.

There are many reasons. The main ones are
1) physically larger pixels gather more light and create less noise @ higher ISOs.
2) larger sensor makes better prints (especially @ 8x10 or bigger) since the picture doesn't have to be enlarged as many times.
3) a better quality lens (even kit lenses are better)
4) room to grow as your skill or ambition dictate.

No matter how many pixels a P&S camera has, they tend to break down around 8x10. I've seen 6MP images blown up to 16x20 and they still looked good.

Does having a wide angle lens really make a difference on a point and shoot digital camera?

Question by Mia G: Does having a wide angle lens really make a difference on a point and shoot digital camera?
I am torn between the Canon SD750 and the Canon SD800 IS. One of the differences is that the SD800 has a wide angle lens and the SD750 doesnt. But for these kinds of point & shoot camera will it really make a difference?

Thanks for any advice!

Best answer:

Answer by holacarinados
It depends on the difference between the widest focal lengths and what you plan to use the camera for. The best thing would be to check out both cameras in a store and ask if you could look through the viewfinder (ask the salesperson to accompany you to the front door of the shop if he/she gets suspicious). Explain that you want to get a sense of the difference in focal lengths. It's really the only way to decide since people have individual preferences. Also, If your point and shoot cannot be put on manual setting, there would be less of a need for the wider angle.

What is a good point and shoot digital camera under $150?

Question by Jack: What is a good point and shoot digital camera under 0?
I'm looking for a good point and shoot camera. Any suggestions? The only must is that it must have a rechargeable battery. I can't believe that there are cameras that still use AA or AAA batteries.

Thanks for your input!

Best answer:

Answer by wackychic547833
I have a canon powershot, not the ones on the commercials. It has a 10x optical zoom and 4x digital and I love it. It still takes AA batteries, but I bought the rechargeable ones. I don't think it was under $ 150, but I did get it on sale for I believe $ 200 or so, but under $ 250. I suggest going on walmart.com or bestbuy.com or wherever they sell cameras and just look and read all the reviews and everything. Good luck.
