This video covers some of the basic differences you need to know when deciding on a compact camera versus a DSLR. http://www.blacks.ca/ Video Rating: 4 / 5
Can't remember the exact camera we used for this clip — we've used everything from the Canon 7D and Canon 5DMkIII up to the Canon C300 and Panasonic AF100.
The Nikon 1 J1 is a fine camera, very capable, and does wonderful HD movies. The video you watched only covers DSLRs and point and shoot cameras, which is why the J1 was not included.
He makes the "size and weight" issue seem a whole lot worse than it is by showing you pretty much the heaviest DSLR you can get. Entry level DSLRs are actually not that huge, and considering their size, surprisingly light.
