  1. actually, it's the x-e1, instead of the x100 that's competing with the nex5. :)

  6. x10 vs x100? I very much like the x100 but I'm a little worried about the AF

  7. THE P7000 is going for under $250 rite now with this camera at a significant more expensive margain, would the extra cost be worth it...

  8. To me the blown highlights in the pics I posted were no deal breaker. In 100 years time people may look back at them as art experts today look at an old master's brush strokes. I went E-PL2 because I got way better JPEG's from an old 6MP Oly than my Nikon D60. Plenty sharp and good colours. I also wanted a classy retro, cute camera.. hence the X10. It would have done the job but Fuji forked tongue marketing.. grrrr! Still hurting from an 80s NY dealer's bait and switch.

  9. I know that a Sigma camera had a similar issue with blown highlights and that a firmware issue solved it eventually. I know what you mean. I do feel that Fuji overhype their products at times and the X10 was indeed marketed as a 'value' X100 which it largely is not. But, from the quality of the shots I have seen I would day that they're on a par with first gen Mirrorless sensors and 6-10MP early DSLR. haha i think i will wait until after xmas when the price comes down!

  10. As one dpreview poster said Xmas is the season for Xorbs. forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1012&message=39981108 I don't think it is a biggie if you love the camera. I cut my digital teeth on American g/f's Olympus SP500UZ. Colours weren't always perfect but I loved the camera so much I didn't even care. Fuji made me so grumpy with inferences that this was of the same ilk as the X100 I simply couldn't go there. For you however I say it's Xmas just get one.

  11. Yes, thats right, from a DOF perspective. Yes, I'm fond of the Bold Monochrome EPL2 modes from what I have seen. I, myself, would love to get an X10, just waiting to see if the 'White Orbs' issue can be cleared up with a firmware update. The camera suits me down to ground. I dont know if the orbs issue has been overhyped or not.

  12. Thank you. I take it you mean from a depth of field perspective. The Oly also has inbuilt art filters which a few youtubers have had a lot of fun with. Whereas I liked the retro look of the X10 I think the E-PL2 has done it even better. I am really excited about it in a way that I never was with my DSLR. Big sensor in a small retro body at an excellent price makes me feel very sneaky and smug like I have just gotten something for nothing.

  13. have fun with it. You can be more creative with the aperture control too of a fast lens and big sensor.

  14. Thanks for that. I have just bought a refurbished Olympus E-LP2 from Cameta. With the VF-2 electronic viewfinder it will come close to the price of the X10 but at least I will have the SLR sized sensor.ie 17.3mm x 13mm cf the Fuji's 8.8mm x 6.6mm. Someone help me with the maths here but I make that very roughly 3,87224 timeslarger than the x10's 8.8mm x 6.6mm offering. snapsort.com/compare/Fujifilm-X10-vs-Olympus-E-PL2

  15. Its an optical window. Just a framing window, no other information int his window. Its purely for compostion really

  17. The Fuji X10 has a tiny sensor, not the real sensor of the X100, nor does it have the hybrid electronic finder that makes the X100 the X100, nor does it have an aperture ring nor does it have a shutter-speed dial. It's just like a Canon G12; it is not in any way an X100 except in price. Very clever, Fuji: make a $250 camera, puts it in a bigger case and plays off the excellence of the unobtainable X100, and pocket it all the way to the bank. (I was suckered too).

  18. Hey Matt. I too love the retro look and the X10/100 at least give the impression of returning to a time before everything went crazy. The X10 is cool but I like the intimacy you can get with a bit of zooming. May I ask how the viewfinder on these things works? Is it like a dslr or electronic?

  21. There's something about you:
You present us a new camera without actually showing it to us.
Then again I SAW it through your words.Your exposure is serious and matter of fact. You don't look like a child at the candy factory as many others do when it comes to new gadgets.I enjoyed your presentation.

  22. I bought it on Friday. It's really great. I love super macro and film simulation function !! What I don't like is the optical viewfinder. it's 85% coverage !! But I still love it !!
