  1. Depends on what you're doing... 99% of the time I use my iPhone, on special occasions I bust out the expensive gear.

  2. I have both. The video footage on my iPhone is always grainy. Even in natural light. That's the reason I went for the Canon EOS 60D

  4. Gidday Guys I bought the Canon 600D after you recommended it, but it doesn't have auto focus. The Quality rocks though! What about Samsung new phones, can you do some research on that for us? Would really appreciate that,,,thanks Marty Ware

    Hi Aruan,

Thanks. The T4i has a new processor and has a touch screen. It's a bit faster for photography, though for video it's almost the same. If you're looking to buy a first time camera, go for the T4i. Thanks.

  6. Hi Ty! This is the first time I watch your videos. Thanks for help us out. I've just subscribed your channel btw!
I've seen you recommend the T3i/600D Canon.. but are there any difference between the T3i and the T4i? Which one is the best for YouTube Video recording? Thanks a lot!

Hi Steve, good question. I have yet to find a good app that's good for video recording. I use Kitcam, see if that works?

I'll look into this anyway as I'd like to find out as well.

    Thanks.

  8. I've tried recording indoor with the iphone 4s & 5 using flourescent camera lights & trying to achieve the white background effect. Only trouble is I get camera flicker from the lights. I have been trying to find out what causes this & I believe it to be the recording framerate. Do you know of an app etc orhow to change the framerate or avoid this problem when using an iphone for inddor recording with lights.

  11. It all depends on what you are using it for. For short quick video's, the iphone is great. I have one myself. If you want longer video's and more storage, then the Canon is the best.I don't have one, but will get one soon as I'm off to Hawaii.

I've seen the Sony A57 around and it's not something I've tried, since it's limited with it's lens and the flexibility of installing extra firmware like Magic Lantern. In regards to having an autofocus - the Canon 650D has the STM feature which is auto-focus but it's still not fast enough for auto video focusing. In my opinion it's distracting and I would not use it. I'd stick with the Canon T3i / 600D. Thanks.

Great suggestion. I agree with the iPhone Video Hero course. It teaches you all the right things to use with your iPhone.

Hi Kelly, good points you noted here. If you save up over time I'm sure you will be able to get a Canon DSLR and plus they have been going down in price a lot, especially the Canon 600D. I'd keep an eye out for this in the next year, as the Canon 650D and the 6D overtakes the 600D...

  22. what are your thoughts on the Sony a57? its got autofocus for video, which canon dosent..and is around same price for the t3i...would you buy it Tyrone/Justin?

  23. I guess it depends on the purpose of the video. I consider the iPhone to be a life saver for unexpected situations (you're always carrying it after all) but to record more pro looking videos and more control, I would prefer the Canon DSLR hands down!

  24. I prefer the DSLR but it is bulky and so much more expensive. I have an IPhone but only 16gb and most of that is memory is being used.
