  1. Hey, I am planning to buy a DSLR that is Nikon D5100 , I just need it for regular use(same as a point and Shoot camera usage) but I am going for an DSLR because of its image quality . But one of my friends said that the zoom what we get in the Standard 18-55mm lens kit is very less and is not sufficient (is this true?) and also is it zoom sufficient and similar to what we get in 10-12x optical zoom in an point and shoot camera??
    thanks in advance! :)

  2. The most important thing that determines image quality is the SIZE OF THE SENSOR inside the camera.. Point & shoot cameras usually have sensors which are 8 times smaller than DSLRs.

  3. Nex 5 is a very good camera with the ablity to interchange lenses.. Its image quality is close to DSLR. It uses APSC size sensor. It performs well in indoor and low light shots. If you want DSLR like quality but you want to avoid the bulk of DSLR then i would defenitely recommend you this camera. Its very superior than point & shoot and bridge cameras..

  4. They are not dslrs. They are called bridge cameras. They cant match DSLR photo quality. If you still want to go with them. I would suggest you Nikon

  7. points described here for comparison is stupid like. Most important points in comparison between DSLR and Point Shot are the image Sensor and the Control of DSLR. The image sensor of the DSLR is larger in size (i did not mean it as megapixel but in dimension) which gives you pure quality picture. You can have more control on DSLR with what you can do whatever you want.

  8. Hello ranjit, I m about to buy my first DSLR. I chose the Canon 600D. Though its the same as the 550D I preferred to go for the 600D for its adjustable lcd screen. But I got myself stuck betwn the selection of lenses. Should I go for the stock 18-55mm lens or the 18-135mm would be better? Nd what about the 55-250mm telephoto lens? This lens won the "Best entry level lens" in 2008 by TIPA. So now u see m very confused. So please suggest me a good entry level lens with good zoom and macro.Thank U.

  12. @geekyranjit: I personally use the standard Kit lens (18-55 mm IS lens) and most of the time the prime 50mm for most of my photography, rarely use the telephoto the DSLR camera that I am currently using is Canon 550D (600D is the newer model in this series).

I am justing for over a while on this professional L lens Canon EF24-70mm f/2.8L USM Lens but it is simply out of my budget may be I will be able to buy it some day.

  13. @geekyranjit: Aslo remember that in a DSLR there are 2 things the Body (the camera) and the lens generally u change the body every 3-4 years but the lens stays with you it will work with the new (camera body) so investing in a good lens is good idea in the long run no point spending bomb on the body. When you want a telephoto lens for zoom you can look at 55mm-250mm IS lens (mid zoom lens), and when you are ready you can start buying professional L lens they cost a bomb.

  14. @tomyloveu: Regarding the make between Canon / Nikon just remember that once you take once model you need to stick to it, Personally I use the Canon coz it has slight edge in the Video dept and I take a lot of videos with my DSLR.

I think you should look at Canon 600D with the Kit 11 lens 18-135mm that can be a good all round lens for starters also I would suggest a 50mm Prime lens dont buy too many lens as take a lot of photos with these 2 lens to understand your DSLR capabilities.

  15. and the 2nd thing i like to go for is coz dslr cam do video as well and by using 50mm the deep of the filed is so cool cant get it from camcorder.. so its all rounder but if i buy tele lens 50mm and then mirco the cost goes more then RS100,000 so is there any allround lens that can do all i like canon eos 60d what u think i should get any model u think coz it gonna be my first dslr.. and i am gonna be father soon so wanna have nice dslr

  18. @YUKAICHUNG1: It's not like that that long lens is know as a telephoto lens which is useful if the subject is very far and you need to zoom in a lot.... its basically a mega zoom lens. I actually use that lens less than 10% in my photography I generally prefer the 50mm prime or use the kit lens most of the time. With a DSLR camera you change the lens depending upon the kind of photography you intend to do.

  19. For the DRSL,is that longer lens is better?
